This unique city in Libya, Male-Female Separated

Libya there is a unique city because of two things. First, architectural and residential complex like a beehive. The second, the forms have distinctive objectives: The men and women separately.

As an application of Islamic law in order to keep adultery because the mixing of men and women in everyday life, may be an example of a unique Ghadames. This city is also called "the pearl of the desert" or "pearl of the desert". It is located in the district of Nalut, Tripolitania, Libya southwest.

The city population at about 10,000 head. The houses in this place has a distinctive vertical architecture - ground floor used to store supplies, then another floor for the family, and on, the outdoor terrace is reserved for women.

What is the purpose dial-connect open terrace at the top? This is where the women move freely, communicating with friends and neighbors, even to move the 'roof' of the city. This top is sealed from the bottom. That is, the man is on the bottom and could not see the woman. Roof walkways allow women to move freely, hidden from the view of men.

Ghademes is an old city. Recorded in history, has been around since the Roman period, and at the time the settlement was known as Cydamus, a fortified city in the 1st century BC. We'll see some parts of the desert pearls in the photo below.
