HILL CROSS MILLION

 

This is the pride of the historical sites in Lithuania, Hill of Crosses is also the goal of Christian pilgrimage, 12 km north of the city of Siauliai, Northern Lithuania. As the name implies, this small hill full of salib.Tidak known when and how the course of history that so many crosses in place. It is estimated there are over 100,000 crosses on the Hill of Crosses. Many stories circulate without authentic historical sources, and eventually became a legend about the origin of Hill of Crosses. One story mentions in the 13th century when the majority of the population professed pagan beliefs, they set fire to a church in that place. After the incident, Hill of Crosses, a symbol of warning and begin people come to carry the cross and laid in place.

In 1831 and 1863, when the anti-Soviet uprising occurred, the more pilgrims flock to this hill. But when the Soviet Union came to power, the government is trying to flatten the Hill of Crosses three times as well as digging trenches around the hills in an attempt to stop the pilgrims arrived. In the old regime, planting the cross is a crime and punished severely under threat. In fact, people that nobody cares and still make pilgrimages to the Hill of Crosses. It was only after the Soviet collapse in 1991 and again, Hill of Crosses, Lithuania became the site of national pride.
