Regarding the story of the Baptism of Jesus Christ by John the Baptist in the first profiled in the New Testament gospels, namely Matthew 3: 13-17, Mark 1: 9-11; Luke 3: 21-22, John 1: 32-34. Water baptism by John the Baptist to Jesus Christ is the beginning of Jesus' ministry. There are many questions related to the water baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist. And Bible verses as well have written the answer. Before we describe it, the better we understand first the meaning of baptism itself.
Baptism or baptism has the same purpose, namely by the baptism of Jews in particular have a purpose:
- The ceremony marks the entry into a particular group or community
- Ceremonial cleansing from sin sin (as recorded in Mark 1: 4)
At the time of the early church early sign of Baptism is a ceremony in which the baptized are united to Jesus Christ in the life, death and resurrection (as written in Romans 6: 3-8), and as a sign that someone has been a member of God's people.
Dealing with the Baptist ministry by Jesus Christ if it is associated with the sense described above, is a sign of the beginning of the service performed by Jesus. At which time a new 30-year-old Jesus. As for the notion that the two that Baptism is a sign of cleansing from sins comes the question! what Jesus has done so he had to do cleansing ceremonies sins? Did Jesus have sinned against God? Similar questions arise in the case of the baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist. Before answering the question into two verses we try to provide support related to ceremonial removal (cleaning) sin as follows:
Leviticus 1:4 "And he shall lay his hand on the head of the burnt offering, so it was acceptable to him offering to make atonement for him."
Leviticus 4:29 "And he shall lay his hand on the head of the sin offering and slaughter it at the victim's place of burnt offering."
Leviticus 8:14. "And he brought the bullock of the sin offering, and Aaron and his sons laid his hands on the head of the bullock of the sin offering."
While connected to the verses in Leviticus above the Baptism of Jesus Christ ministry can be interpreted as follows: Jesus Christ is portrayed as a sacrifice for the remission of sins. While John the Baptist was a priest who prepare and provide the best satisfaction for sin to God. For sin committed by John the Baptist with Jesus Christ is the sacrifice for sin are favored by God was contained in the next verse: "And lo a voice from heaven said:" This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased . "
John's baptism of Jesus is the beginning of the ministry of Jesus and is the culmination of the ministry of John the Baptist in preparing the way for the Lord. John is described as a priest who sacrifices to prepare for the removal of the sins of mankind. And for Jesus' baptism was the beginning of his ministry and the sacrifices that please God. And soon will the blood be poured out as a sacrifice for sin is pleasing to God.
The true baptism is the baptism of the Holy Spirit was poured out only by Jesus Christ into the hearts of the people of his choice. Whereas baptism by humans just a form of submission to God and submission forms allowed the baby to God to his people / kids his future. Related to this Akitab wrote that before Jesus was baptized of John baptizing Jesus felt unworthy. As it says in Matthew 3:14 But John prevented him, saying: " I need to be baptized by You, and are You coming to me? " and in John 1:30 " He is what I meant when I said: After me will come one, who had preceded me, because he existed before me. "
John realized that he was not worthy of Jesus and was baptized in fact Jesus had baptized him. John realized who Jesus although at first not mengenalNya.Yohanes John also testified as written in John 1: 32-36
1:32 And John testified, saying, "I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and He remained upon Him.
1:33 And I will not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water, has said to me: If you see the Spirit descend upon someone and staying on top of him, he it is who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.
1:34 I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son of God. "
1: 35 The next day again John was standing with two of his disciples.
1:36 And when he saw Jesus passing by, he said: "Behold the Lamb of God!"
The verse above multiplied again confirms that Jesus is the atonement sacrifices acceptable to God whose blood was shed to atone for the sins of mankind.
Associated with the baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist once again gives us that John the Baptist baptized Jesus felt unworthy, but what Jesus said in Matthew 3:15 "And Jesus answering said unto him," Suffer it to be, because so fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness. "Dan And John followed him."
These events also explains that Jesus' humility to accept water baptism by John the Baptist in accordance with the will of God. In the event also had the purpose that Jesus and John the Baptist precedence over the will of God rather than the will of man. Obedience was the impression that emerged from the events of Jesus' baptism by John the Baptist. Putting God's will rather than the will of man that is the beginning of the ministry of Jesus as a sacrifice for the remission of sins of mankind.
